Case Dressing Fabrics

Before finally installing an artifact into its sealed exhibit case, it's important to determine that no harm will be caused to the artifact by the materials already present in the case. This is why Medite is preferred over almost any sort of plywood or why paints being used should pass testing for harmful off-gassing. Likewise, case dressing fabrics can sometimes cause problems within the closed case environment - problems leading to tarnishing or corrosion of artifacts. We currently offer two types of fabric that we've submitted, with successful results, to Oddy testing.


The Case Dressing Fabrics are custom-ordered and non-returnable. Please choose carefully before placing your order. To avoid disappointment, please allow at least two weeks for delivery. Shipments are oversize and incur extra UPS shipping costs.

Sample rings are available for both Linens and Plain Weave. 

Linen Fabric




We're very excited to have found these beautiful linens and linen/cotton blends from Poland. They are very similar to Belgian linens at a fraction of the cost. They are an ideal fabric for dressing case interiors and covering blocks and are available in six neutral colors, without sizing or fire-retardants, ranging from black to beige to white.

Sold by the yard / 5 yard minimum.

We've done our best to accurately depict our colors. However, we can't guarantee colors over the internet & strongly advise ordering a sample ring. We try our best to ensure color consistency, but due to the natural fibers, some fabric lots may vary slightly.

Plain Weave Fabric

 

Manufactured by one of New England's oldest textile mills, this fabric has a relatively large weave when looked at up close. Once installed, the effect is a wash of solid color that has a subtle texture to give it depth. And for us installers, when you have to move an object (therefore leaving a hole behind where the old mount came out) this particular weave is very forgiving. That has saved the day for us more than once!
Made from 100% recycled material - biodegrades just like natural fibers.

The Plain Weave offers the following advantages:

- The weave is perfectly straight and true.
- The fabric is non-directional.
- Polyester has a low coefficient of moisture absorption.
- Computer color matching insures color consistency.

From time to time, the mill discontinues various colors. And indeed, the above three of our colors are going on the chopping block. As of August 1, 2023, they will be available in limited yardage on a first come, first served basis.

It's really impossible to get an accurate sense of colors and fabrics through a  computer monitor. Why not order a sample ring of our Linens or our Plain Weave to best see what's on offer?  We've changed the set-up to give you a nice 6" x 6" memo.
